Uli has spent two decades building and running the kind of systems this course is about. As the Europe technical lead for Yahoo! he managed thousands of servers, automating deployment and configuration long before anyone called it DevOps. Since then he has worked across Microsoft, IBM, Red Hat, Dyson, and Heineken, built with AI since the first GPT-3 API access in 2021, and has taught at the National University of Singapore for six years. He works hands-on, in the terminal, on real systems, which is how this course is taught.
Uli Hitzel is a hands-on AI technologist and ecosystem builder working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, business transformation, and human creativity. He helps enterprises and startups build with AI rather than just buy it, guiding teams through practical implementation while exploring how AI augments human capabilities across industries.
His work spans digital manufacturing at Dyson, GenAI adoption at Heineken, and pandemic-response infrastructure at Raffles Medical, building on two decades in technology at Microsoft, IBM, and others. Earlier in his career he served as European technical lead for a global media company, managing more than 20,000 servers and pioneering automated deployment before the term DevOps existed. He has been teaching AI at the National University of Singapore for six years, and founded Electric Minds to connect builders, thinkers, and the perpetually curious across the region.
He has written four books on AI, including The LLM Stack, a practical guide to how the technology works without the hype. He still spends most of his time in the terminal, building, which is the part he likes most.
